We surveyed 2,000 UK consumers and the findings reveal, at their core, that if customers see that a company is using its data to provide good products, relevant communications and efficient service, then they are more likely to trust that firm to hold their data and continue using it to ensure their satisfaction.

The results also demonstrate clearly that the effective management and use of consumer data is a vital part of any company’s efforts to communicate with its customers and deliver the products and the overall service that they want. Using data effectively and demonstrating the capability to do so to consumers is essential to achieving true customer satisfaction and trust. The survey results also strongly indicate that people react negatively – which means losing trust and likely taking their business elsewhere – if companies continually show they are failing to keep track of their data and failing to use it to deliver on all aspects of their business.

Data needs to do more than just aid the targeting of communications. It also needs to inform product development, servicing procedures, delivery methods – virtually any aspect of a business that impacts customer satisfaction. Â
